Site Navigation

Objectives.

We have tried to maintain the simplicity of navigation that was commended in earlier versions of our site.

In order to maximise the graphic quality, but still maintain download speed, we have endeavoured to minimise the number of buttons and labels dedicated solely to navigation.

Text Links

All underlined text is a link, as described by the text.

Graphics

We have split the images into various galleries and sub-galleries. Each of these contains a variety of "thumbnail" images. Click on any "thumbnail" to view larger version of the same image. Each of the larger images is set into a page with additional buttons allowing you to navigate the larger images without need to return to the gallery. You will find that there are a number of additional larger images which do not appear on the galleries.

Excepting where otherwise stated, all work portrayed in the images is that of Lorna herself and, in the main, have been done 'on the job'.

All images remain the property of Lorna Strachan and copyright must be strictly adhered to. Any images within the site may only be used with the express permission of Lorna or her authorised agent.

The Summary Site

The Summary Site is designed to provide a quick overall view of our work. There are no "thumbnails" but each of the pages provides a direct link to the Main Site Home Page. Each of the images is duplicated within the Main Site and can be viewed in different sizes, as described above.

Materials

Paints

We use various different makes of paint amongst which are Snazaroo, Fardel, Grimas, Kryolan, and Mehron. All of the paints which we use are of a professional high grade quality. They are FDA, EEC and EU approved and hypo-allergenic. We do not use any paints which have not been rigorously tested or which have failed to meet the stringent standards of  the FDA, EEC or EU. Importantly, all our paints are water based and are easily removed from skin and clothing.

Glitters

We use poly glitters which have absolutely no metallic content. Metallic glitters can cause reactions and, without proper care, can cut or scratch the eyes. We would always recommend that such products are avoided.

Glues

There have been a number of products launched for the purpose of attaching glitters and gems to the skin but, whilst we have not encountered any problems with them, when on test, we prefer to use the universally recognised , and approved, Telesis Beta Bond. This is the medical product used for bonding prosthetic devices, dressings and ostomy appliances to the body. It is water resistant but is is not a dermal irritant.

Inks

Tested to the same exacting standards as our paints, we use Tempu and Tsukineko Inks for our tattoos.

Durability

Painting

Whether on Face or Body, painted designs are the least durable of our product. Water based, the paints are not resilient to water and will wash off relatively easily with mild soap and water. A fixative can be applied, upon special request, which will help stop the smudging effect from normal  body perspiration. This fixative, or barrier spray, does not make the paint any more difficult to wash off but is normally reserved for body painting.  Particularly with children, there is always a risk of sprayed product getting in the eyes, a risk which we do not consider to be appropriate.

Glitter Tattoos

These last anything from two to three days, depending particularly on the amount of "rub" on the tattooed area.

Temp Tattoos
Tempu

Normally applied by brush, these last anything from three to five days, depending on conditions and maintenance. To ensure maximum duration, these applications must be dried and reset, using normal talcum powder, whenever they get wet.

Tsuhineko

Normally applied using specialist sponge applicators, these last anything from two to three days, depending on conditions. These are ideal for youngsters because they are quick to apply.

Equipment

Tables

We use  hygienic lightweight roll-up polished aluminium tables.

Chairs

We use purpose built portable chairs. Stable, sturdy, comfortable, and safe.

Brushes

We use the best quality sable brushes. Specifically chosen for their gentle qualities, on even the most sensitive skin, these brushes also ensure a smooth and effective paint flow which makes the process must faster.

Sponges

We use only high density sponges, with absolutely no latex content, minimising the chances of allergic reaction and ensuring ease and gentleness of application.

Hygiene

All of our equipment is cleaned thoroughly between jobs. Clean towels are used for each job and dirty sponges are promptly disposed. Children are children and their faces will, where ever possible, attract dirt, sweets, chocolate, and sauces like magnets! We carry a plentiful supply of "wet wipes" to attend to their little nuances.

Pricing

No two Clients have the same requirements. Prices vary depending on the Client's specification and we do not feel that it is appropriate to advertise fees which might be seen to be miss-leading. Please call or e-mail for an individual quote. Nothing is too big, small, or distant. You may be surprised at how reasonable our fees really are.

Helpful Hints

Paint Removal

For young or very delicate skin, we have found that the best readily available product for removing all manner of face paints is Johnson's Baby Shampoo!

Ink Removal

Rubbing alcohol is best for rapid removal of tattoo inks but appropriate care must be taken in sensitive areas. As with all such products, it should always be kept well out of reach of children.

Disclosure Scotland Certificated

In an effort to minimise risk to children, a vetting and certification process has been introduced in Scotland. Although certification is currently voluntary, we believe that anyone proposing to work with children should be obliged to conform to strict guidelines and should, in the interests of the children, be subjected to a strict screening procedure. To this end, we were amongst the first in the industry to apply for, and obtain, Disclosure Scotland certification.

Equity

Lorna being a Member of Equity, the Performers and Artists Union, Cool Faces abide by a strict Code of Practice commensurate with membership of this Association. The current Code is as noted below.

  1. Always use professional paints and products, strictly in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.

  2. Do not paint a child with a cold sore or any other apparent skin disease.

  3. Use clean utensils, wash containers, brushes and sponges thoroughly after each session. Try to keep them clean during the session.

  4. Change brush water frequently.

  5. Be extra careful when painting near the eyes, especially on very young children and those unable to keep still.

  6. Clean any dirt or food from a child's face before starting. Look out for runny noses!

  7. Do not add disinfectant to the water as the paint already contains agents which act against yeast, mould, and bacteria.

  8. It is essential that any artist working wit, or for, Cool Faces have adequate public liability insurance or that they are adequately covered by the policy of the company for which they are working.
